note: these are items and projects being launched, tested or witheld because of their volatile, inflamatory, experimental or adult nature. If you are not ready for that kind of content, close this page and return to the milder levels of the Smart Shelter Website and work. If, however, you believe that people pleasing, making everybody happy or denying or forgoing the more tenacious and assertive aspects of human nature are the reason we live in a world seriously lacking in what we could have in terms of environmental integrity, public lands health, freedom from multi-national corporate domination, corruption of our legal, legislative and judicial (as well as law enforcement) agencies, and an incrreasingly pathetic lack of viable choices in our elected officials ...what you find here might be at least a plank in your platform for effective personal action.

Statewide Ban on All Off Road VehiclesThe time has come to do what we should have done 15 years ago...ban possesion and use of all personal motorized recreational vehicles from the public lands of Western Colorado...this was the conclusion and action in California 25 years ago after they shredded the Anza Borrego Desert. Warnings issued a decade ago, ignored by politicials and public lands managers have now produced a hideous and metasticizing legacy of damage, erosion, invasive species spread, alienation of reponsible public users and pollution...at the hands of japanese manufactured consumer toys burning middle eastern fuels garnered by war, financed by multi-national corporate entities and condoned by coin-operated governemental agencies...which ironically we pay taxes under the illusion that they will protect our BLM and Forest Service lands. There is no such thing as the responsible use of an irresponsible vehicle ...and we intend to see this stopped.Smart Shelter's Cumulo Nimbus Library
This isn't any controversial secret here...but the names and locations of those who borrow videos, taped radio interviews, books, articles or other resources from Smart Shelter through its "floating" Cumulo Nimbus Library seem private enough information to allow its access, at least for the time being only to those selected and approved for its content. Here's the beginnings of web posting, limited access information and description of the library, placing access and contacts conveniently (we hope) in the hands of those who need and deserve it.
This home, built by a volatile and problematical character (never the less of major research and contributory significance) in Grand Junction and toured by Smart Shelter in the spring of 2000, was then and certainly continues today as one of our richest landmarks in Regional Signature Hybrid Natural Architecture. Negotiation and execution of the public tour as well as assembly and publication of this report itself were actualized by traversing a veritable minefield of personal issues. It was, at the final complete and total breakdown of communication, never released to the public, the owner, or the tour participants. Now, 4 years later, the contributions of that home and its owner/builder seem sustaining and significant to an extent that warrants release of the document which case studied, condensed and published those results. Jerry is gone (moved to New Mexico) the home is sold to new owners (who want their privacy and peace protected) and some dust has settled. Location has been removed...the information is contained for your education only. Please don't disturb anyone if you figure out where it is. The Signature Hybrid Natural Architecture has progressed significantly beyond what Jerry created in "Madre de Paz" as she named her home. Much of that progress came from the mistakes she made and the changes she would suggest were she to do this again...which was her fourth home of her own building. This document, though a bit behind the eightball and 4 years outdated, remains an archive and well worth the perusal of those serioux about natural architecture or gearing up to do their own retrofit or building project.
